Microsoft Account

When I activated my Win 8 OS, I elected to not create a Microsoft Account. My reason being I do not want M$ having more access to my system than is absolutely necessary. I recently had occasion to attempt download from the Win 8 Store and of course I could not do so without creating the MS account.

My question regards what the members of TSG have to say about their experience in having an active M$ account and any downsides they have observed.
