Have a friend with a new Asus Ultrabook w/Win 8. I discovered some very strange behaviors on it. First, the owner is the only user and in User Accounts is shown as the Administrator. BUT. . . I started noticing on several drop-down lists that one of the choices was "Run as Administrator". That should not appear as a choice if the only user IS the Administrator.
2nd: I cannot run chkdsk or sfc /scannow; get error message saying access denied, or that "you do not have the permissions required to run this".
3rd: I installed Firefox. So she would not have to save, then look up and run, downloaded files, I installed the Firefox add-on "Opendownload2", which adds a "Run" button to the dialog box that appears after a file is downloaded. The Run button does nothing; downloads do not run. One clue: I downloaded Avast and clicked the Run button and got an error message saying that the file "C:\Users\Karenlea\AppData\Local\Temp\(long .exe file name) could not be opened." The reason: THERE IS NO APPDATA FOLDER UNDER THIS USER (who is the Administrator)!!! Isn't the AppData folder installed by Windows and isn't it a critical folder? So what would cause it to disappear and how can it be restored?
