Since my old Win 7 laptop died, I've been looking for a replacement. Based on what I was reading on various forums, I did NOT want one with Win 8 - having started with DOS then Win 3.1, I am too old and set in my ways to want to learn yet another OS, especially some whiz-bang, touch-screen-oriented one. But, bowing to the inevitable, I bought a new laptop with Win 8 anyway. Surprisingly (to me anyway), after stripping out all the bloatware and cutsie graphical stuff, it's close enough to how Win 7 looks and works that I'm comfortable with it. I did download Classic Shell but haven't yet installed it. We'll see.
So, do I really need 8.1? Other than returning the start menu, what does it provide that I just can't do without?
