Windows 8 laptop stuck on "preparing to repair cyle"

My laptop is stuck in a cycle of restarting itself after displaying a screen that says "Preparing to Repair". It turns on, shows the hp symbol and the message, then after a few seconds it loads a black screen covered in blue dots (which I've never seen before), then it turns itself off and restarts the cycle. I've tried using the fkeys, which load every option except the f12 system repair option. I can get into my bios menus and everything. I made a repair usb, as my laptop doesn't have a disc tray, I changed the bios to run from the usb in hopes that I could repair it that way. Still not working. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I don't care if I have to completely wipe it clean. I just don't know how at this point.

Windows 8.1 screen crash

I think this might be gaming related but I didn't know where to post this.

I got my computer about a year ago, brand new and it runs very smoothly. The only problem is, I can't play games that use DirectX including Runescape, The Sims and pretty much just any other games that use DirectX which I think is a lot. I can run a game for maybe 10 - 20 minutes until this happens. https://gyazo.com/762eb61f820c10e04b15bb09d74ea79f

I found that my computer is still running when this happens, I can still hear people talking on teamspeak/skype and vice versa. I assumed it was a graphics card problem or when I was given the computer I was just given a faulty graphics card but I'm not sure anymore. I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a year.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can't access a website

Hello:

I for the past month, I have been trying to get onto the HTC website for some customer service for my phone.
For some reason I keep getting an error message "This Webpage Not Available, ERR_Name_Resolution_Failed".

I can get the website at work, but not at home. I have previously had no problems getting on the website before last month.

I have tried everything.....running internet security cleaner (found nothing), ran all the "cleaning" and filtering programs I have, turned off the firewall and spam programs (still got the error message)....I've tried tons of ways, looked online for help, and have already done all of the suggestions people suggested. I still get the error message on www.htc.com and www.htc.com/us/.

I have even tried HTC Canada, HTC Japan, HTC UK, and still get the same error message!

This is the ONLY website I have problems with. I can get onto any other website, just not this one.

What the H is going on?????

Windows 8.1 issues

Hello,

I updated to windows 8.1 back in 2013, at first everything was fine, but then i noticed my internet connections were now "limited", I assumed it was a problem with my universities internet but a friend used the same connections, Ethernet in my room and the school wifi, perfectly. I googled the problem and found that it is a common problem with many people who upgraded, but none of the proposed solutions have helped at all:(.

I was still able to access the internet through my browsers like firefox and chrome, but the start apps could not access the internet, apps like skype and the windows store. I downloaded the skype for desktop and that works fine, so any apps that run in the desktop work fine, so I didn't think to much of the problem and lived with it. What i didn't realise was now I can't do any windows updates or update my windows defender either, so that started to worry me.

When I thought that was the last of my problems, the start screen apps stopped working completely, another windows 8.1 problem that people complained about, and that proposed solutions didn't help, apart from creating a new account, which fixes the apps, but the limited connectivity still stops them from working properly.

At this point I accepted that my laptop is gona be like this for the rest of it's life, and then I heard about the windows 10 update that's coming, hopefully it will be able to fix my issues:)..buuuuuut the dreaded limited internet problem that plagues me seems to hinder whatever app allows you to update(reserve an update at least), and I assume it's a start screen app, which even if it does work, cannot access the internet:(...so I'm stuck...hopping someone can help

My OS is 'windows 8.1', For the last few days windows defender has not been working, I have done 'System Restores' to dates when every thing seemed to be working, but it has not solved the problem. I did a search for windows defender, and I got the following error message:

Hi tech guy,

My mother is having trouble with her PC and I've been tasked to fix it. Now I need not to screw it up so searched and this site seems to be full of great answers!

The cleanmgr stopped working a couple of days ago. When the icon is clicked nothing happens. I haven't experienced anything like this before. And I'm not really a techie.

Audio problem - Win8, Toshiba Satellite

Hi all,

First of all, I tried all possible fixes I could imagine and see and my last shot is here.
So, I wanted to uncheck motherboard issue ( soundcard ) by installing Ubuntu, and sound is working on Ubuntu, utleast last time I checked. But before Ubuntu (and right now) I have Windows 8, and I had that annoying sound problem, even my HDMI is not shown in devices when I want to play sound trough my 5.1 system from TV ( It worked on Ubuntu).

I know it has a problem with drivers, but I am unable to:
1. complete uninstall HD audio drivers (they come back after I refresh hardware changes)
2. Troubleshoot found error and try to reinstall driver, but it's unable to resolve it and reinstall
3. I tried many different versions of Realtek Audio drivers, even some sort of Intel Display drivers (with Audio) etc.. but nothing..
4. The problem appears first time after (I think) last drivers update of Intel drivers, even now I think Intel has buggy latest drivers.
5. But, even clean install of Windows 8.1 doesn't recognize Audio Output devices.
6. I upgraded BIOS few weeks ago from Toshiba website, I think 6.30, 640 or 6.50 was the last version on my laptop AND I upgraded it to latest 6.80. Maybe that is connected somehow with my problem? But I had that problem before I upgraded BIOS, and I tried Ubuntu few days ago without problem.
I want Windows 8.1 with sound

Clarification on Recycle Bin Emptying

$

I am running a Windows 8 OS for purposes of this inquiry. I don't religiously empty my recycle bin. I can go stretches of time without cleaning it. Today, I checked the recycle bin after doing some housekeeping on my fixed drives. I saw that there were other files that are showing deleted on a removable drive that could use the free space. I also saw some other files which I wasn't sure I wanted to remove permanently yet. So I highlighted some of the larger files in the recycle bin that are from my removable drive, and began the removal process. These files have been deleted for a long time already, compared to the files I had just deleted in my housekeeping. As I monitored the progress, I noticed that there were headers flashing as the removal was going on. Instead of seeing the file names of the files I was removing from the recycle bin, I was seeing 8-character stretches (which I call 'headers' for lack of knowing better), some of which seem to show parts of file names from a different directory. That alarmed me and I cut off the process, but it had gone through halfway and had cleaned out a few GB before I stopped it.

I have many data files on that removable drive, so much that I cannot remember most of them, but I certainly want to keep them. I have proceeded to access the removable drive again, and so far I do not notice anything wrong yet.

I took out my removable drive from my desktop for my travels earlier and plugged it back into my desktop today, but along with other removable drives. In the process, the drive letter assignment changed from before.

Was that a screw up of the recycle bin process and caused me to lose some files? Or is there nothing for me to worry about? Should I expect to see the proper file names in the recycle bin flash through as the removal process is being done?

Hello TSG users,

I have a MAJOR problem with my HP 15-f039wm laptop I bought from Walmart on Christmas. Suddenly, yesterday, when I load my computer, it shows a dwm.exe has stopped working, in 4-5 windows.:mad: When I booted it up today, the mouse is very slow and the keyboard is slow too. Additionally, one of the USB ports are malfunctioning too. Is there any way to resolve this? I have had it for almost a half year now and I don't want to return it!

"Folder Fix" script infected? Plz check code

I cannot create a new folder in Windows 8.1 anymore. Searching for a fix, I found this Youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhywTXMK6ow

It offers a link to Mediafire where a script containing these registry changes is offered. I uploaded to VirusTotal and two scanners said there was a trojan, but all other 50 or so said it was clean, so I am a little cautious. I read the script it executes but I don't know if something malicious is in there. If someone who knows code could take 30 seconds to look at the code I would greatly appreciate it. I already made a restore point and backed up my registry just in case, but I would feel better having someone check this out before I choose to use this fix.

I wasn't sure which category to put this in so I went with my operating system.

I am about to sell my computer on Craig's List and I wanted completely shred all of my personal info but not wipe out the operating system. Any good suggestions? Cheap or preferably freeware?
